River & Cloth Exhibition

The River & Cloth exhibition took place from 16 - 23 September 2010 and showcased and celebrated the amazing range of textiles created by the many participants of the project. The work featured included dyed, printed and embroidered textiles created by pupils from Merton schools and a number of community groups based in the borough.  It also included the work of the volunteers and teachers who were  trained in textile crafts through River & Cloth's professional development programme.

The exhibition began with a special opening party on 16 September 2010, in the Marquee at Merton Abbey Mills and was attended by of the schools, community groups, volunteers and teachers who participated, as well as the Mayor of Merton. Throughout the week of the exhibition, there was a programme of activities including taster sessions in textile techniques and a fascinating lecture on Merton's textile industry.

Throughout October 2010, selections of the work were exhibited in Donald Hope, Mitcham, Morden and Pollards Hills libraries.
