River & Cloth Summer Road Show

Throughout the spring and summer months, River & Cloth will be setting up stall at a number of Merton events and libraries, as well as running several workshops as part of our big exhibition in September.  Do drop by and try your hand at some block printing, hand embroidery or eco-dyeing.  Or sit back and listen to the dulcet tones of Brian Daubney telling the story of Merton's inspiring textile history:

  • Friday 13 August: Block Printing workshop at Donald Pope Library, 10:00 - 12:30pm
  • Wednesday 18 August: Block Printing workshop at Morden Library, 9:30am - 12:30pm
  • Saturday 14 August: Block Printing workshop, as part of AbbeyFest. Come and find us in the market area of Merton Abbey Mills between 11am and 4pm.  
  • Thursday 19 August: Summer University Session in Block Printing for 12-25 year olds - venue to be confirmed, 10:00am - 1:30pm
  • Friday 17 September: Local History Talk, given by William Morris expert, Brian Daubney as part of our exhibition programme, Merton Abbey Mills, 2:30 - 4:00pm
  • Saturday 18 September: Drop-in Hand Embroidery workshop, led by Madeline Herbert as part of our exhibition programme, Merton Abbey Mills, 2:00 - 4:00pm
  • Sunday 19 September: Drop-in  Eco-dyeing workshop, led by Viv Philpot as part of our exhibition programme, Merton Abbey Mills, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
  • Thursday 23 September: Drop-in Block Printing workshop as part of our exhibition programme.  This one is special. As well as being the last workshop session of our programme, Mary Hart, Block Printer at Wandle Industrial Museum will be teaching the traditional method, while Sandrine Case will teach a more contemporary method of block printing.  Venue: Mitcham Library, 9:30am - 12:00pm

All of these workshops are free and apart from the summer university course, advance booking is not required. You are very welcome to drop by and join us on the day.
